Such a beautiful vintage Japanese find, with the softest palette of blush pink and pale buttery yellow scattered with delicate cobalt-blue flowers and trailing green leaves.
The design has that wonderfully light, painterly quality associated with Japanese Yūzen textile design, with the flowers appearing almost as though they have been painted directly onto the fabric. The blue blooms resemble tsuyukusa, or Japanese dayflowers, a delicate summer flower traditionally found throughout Japan.
Made from 100% cotton, the scarf is beautifully lightweight and soft, with a subtle sheen that gives it an almost silk-like appearance. The original Japanese label remains attached and reads 友禅 (Yūzen) and 綿100%, confirming the cotton composition.
Originally produced as a square handkerchief, its generous size makes it particularly lovely worn as a neckerchief or small scarf. It can also be tied in the hair or around the handle of a favourite handbag.
The combination of that powdery pink and yellow ground with the intense little blue flowers is especially pretty — delicate, unmistakably Japanese and incredibly wearable.
