Every now and then I find a bag that genuinely makes me excited, and this is one of them. As someone who spends an enormous amount of time sourcing vintage, finding a Dior Saddle this rare is special — and finding one here in South Africa, in this condition and with its original authentication paperwork, is quite extraordinary.
This is a rare early-2000s Christian Dior Diorissimo Saddle Bag from the John Galliano era, finished in glossy chocolate brown patent leather with Dior’s monogram embossed across the surface. The iconic asymmetric Saddle silhouette is finished with incredible gold-tone hardware, including the oversized hanging D charm and CD strap hardware.
And she is beautiful. The bag is in excellent vintage condition, with the patent retaining its rich gloss and the hardware in fantastic shape. The gold-tone hardware has also been carefully polished and looks spectacular.
There is some very slight cloudiness along the front seam and a small patch to the right of the Velcro fastening — a known issue with vintage patent bags of this type. It is extremely subtle and not something you would notice during normal wear; it really only becomes apparent when scrutinised closely under bright light. I have mentioned it for complete transparency.
Even better, she comes with her original Dior dust bag and original authentication papers.
This particular Diorissimo patent Saddle is a genuinely difficult bag to find and examples command very strong prices on the international vintage market. For a vintage collector in South Africa, this is a particularly exciting find — and certainly not a bag I expect to come across again anytime soon.
