Oh, this is fabulous vintage Céline. A beautifully bold Italian silk scarf covered in the house’s signature jewellery-inspired imagery, with oversized gold chains and medallions set against deep navy.
The centre is filled with elaborate gold-tone chains, circular ornaments and architectural charms, surrounded by a wonderfully intricate mosaic-style border in cobalt blue, turquoise, green and red. More twisted gold chains frame the outer edge, including large horseshoe-shaped medallions bearing CELINE PARIS. The rich navy ground makes all of those jewel colours really sing.
The scarf is signed CÉLINE PARIS within the print, while the original composition label confirms 100% silk and Made in Italy. Comparable vintage Céline scarves from the late 1980s into the 1990s use this same combination of Italian silk, large gold chain and medallion motifs, so I would describe this as circa late 1980s–1990s rather than assigning an exact year.
It’s a wonderfully generous square and looks fantastic worn draped across the shoulders, folded as a classic neck scarf or tied over the hair. The saturated navy, gold and jewel-toned print is pure vintage Céline and makes this such a strong statement scarf.
In very good vintage condition with minor signs of previous wear consistent with age.
